A continuous gravimetric blending unit provides a throughput which depends not from the demand of the extruder but from an independent set-point.
This kind of blenders are used in starve feeded extruders as counter rotating twin screw extruders.
In practice the throughput set-point is derived from screw speed on taking specific feed rate and reduction factor into account.
The process offers optimal mixing of all components under free fall conditions. If the fall distance is very short a static mixer can support mixing.
